DARING THEFT

Valuable Diamond Ring Stolen TAKEN IJNDRR FYES OF JEWELLER Press Associat'on —(Vnvriirbt. Auckland, Sept. 8. A solitaire diamond ring valupd at over £SO was stolen in diring fashion by a well-dressed woman before the eyes of an assistant in a city jeweller's shop today. The woman lifted the ring from a pad holding a number of rings and substituted a cheap imitation ring, revealing audacity and clever sleight of hand. The theft was unnoticed until the woman left the shop. So quicklv was the diamond ring taken from its place and the imitation ring fitted into the groove in the pad that tha attendant was completely, deceived.

Two other thefts of a similar nature are reported, the methods employed by the woman being the same in each cas2. The woman left each shop in a leisurely manner after deciding not to buy.
