WINOOKA IN AMERICA

IS THERE DEMAND FOR RACE WITH EQUIPOISE?

Press Association, —ConyNgbt. New York, Sept. 7,

“I do not think there is n public demand for a race between Equipoise and Winooka,” said C. B. Whitney, owner of Equipoise, referring to statements that. Winooka’s connections are anxious to match the Australian horse against Equipoise. Whitney said: “The owners of Winooka have not communicated with me at all, hut I would not .want to have Equipoise take part in a race that would bo one-sided and would have nothing to command it except that it would have an international flavour.”

Tom Healey, Equipoise’s trainer, expressed the opinion that if a challenge was rendered the race should be a mile in'view of the fact that. Equipoise recently won the Saratoga Cup at 1] miles and was now training for the Jockey Club Gold Cup at two miles. He said that on the basis of Winooka’s single American appearance no relieved Equipoise could beat him m any race from six furlongs to six miles.

Other racing men stated that if Winooka would brat one horse of known calibre the eastern turf world would consider him seriously. Many sceptics are inclined to think Winooka’s management is making an effort to capitalise on Phar Lap’s reputation, which was promptly recognised in America. WARMTH IN WINTER If you have no airing cupboard, place a 'hot water bottle in the linen cupboard every time you put clothes away. This will ensure that the cupboard is always aired. For warming the family before they venture out on these .wintry days let a big hot plate of Red Diamond Rolled Oats do the job of the water bottle. The Red Diamond Brand means that you are buying (in original branded packets) a standard of quality and flavour impossible to ensure with loose, unbranded oats.
