AUTHORITY AT STRATFORD Tho sitting of the No. 5 District Licensing Authority was continued at the Stratford Courthouse yesterday afternoon and up till six o’clock last evening. The personnel of the authority is: Mr. Percy Thomson (chairman), Mr. J. C. Rolleston and Major R. A:. Wilson, tVitli Mr. C. “Tf Turner as secretary.

Applications in addition to those published in last night’s Post were dealt with as follow: Mr. D. P. Mount, Tc AVer a, was granted a two vehicle area license, to be restricted to .(a) .carriage of metal apd coal within the AVhangauiomona county, Ohufa riding of the Ohura county, and the Mangaejiu and Ngatimaru ridings of thiei Stratford county, and (b) to tho carriage of farm produce, manures and .merchandise' 'Within tho 'Mangaehu. East and Ngatimaru ridings of, the' Stratford county, and tho Strathmore and Pohokura ridings of the Whangamomona county. Mr. Mount said he had been in business since 1927 and had a-metal cartage cartage contract with the Public AVorks Department, in addition to stores delivery and wool cartage for the-department. The scope of his operations /would be Matau, Kiore and Taliora. He had no other carriers operating 1 , with him from To AVer a. Th,e .application of Mr. E, V. Clegg, Opun.ake, was granted for one vehicle to operate in the Egmont'county with tho exception of timber and furniture removal, for which ho. could work in tho Taranaki area west of the Hawera —Now Plymouth railway line. His business had boon in operation .. for four years,, said Mr. Clegg.. Ho. carted some calves, for which he had had a contract for, the past three years, and had ,a .contract to cart coal * only .from, Opunake ,to Rahotu. Ho did business to about,,ls miles north .of Opunake, and his scope extended into the Hawora and Eltham. counties, although he did not make ■ regular trips. He did timber carting from a mill in which he was interested.

An application by Mr.. S. • A. Tubby, Stratford (Mr. R. R. Tyrer) for an area license for one vehicle was granted; the. vehicle to operate for •general' carrying in the Stratford and Eltham counties, and■■ the south' riding of the Inglewood county,, and to be restricted , for•-calf and pig collecting to the, west, riding, and that portion of the south riding of the Stratford county lying to the' west of . the Hawera—New Plymouth railway.

of general goods Rom. Tariki and Midhirst stations. His eastern boundary was usually Ratapiko; he had not been to Tarata tor IS months. He also delivered manure and merchandise from tho Ngaerc station. His area was rouughly Ratapiko—-Puken-gahu . —Kaponga Rowan Moun tain Reserve.

Mr. Couch asked if the application for a 25 mile radius would not include Hawiera, Opunake, AVhangaraomoua and Now Plymouth.

The application for a route service license was granted for a daily trip With dairy produce ; and return with ■general merchandise, an extra trip daily between October and February inclusive being authorised. Mr. R. R. Curtis. (Mr. A. Coleman), trading as- - the Stratford Carrying Company, applied for route and area licenses. He .said tho service operated between New Plymouth and Stratford #as the same as had been operated during the'past 19 years.. The service Was one trip daily in tho winter and in the summer reached five trips a day at times. The lorries carried general merchandise, and there was- a dairy produce contract. He desired authority for three vehicles for the route service. Goods ■ were delivered kdi along Tho New .Plymouth—Strat»rd road.. service, not to exceed five trips- a day each way, for the carriage of dairy produce, general merchandise and hides and'skins, the authority being for three vehicles. The area license was also granted to' operate for five vehicles over the Inglewood, Stratford, AVhangamomona and Eltham counties for general carrying. The license was restricted, as to the carriage of pigs, to the , Stratford county, to the carriage of pigs- to that portion of the Stratford county east of the New Plymouth-—Hawera railway and to the carriage of metal within the counties of Stratford, Inglewood and W-hangamomona counties. Tho area was extended to the Ohura riding of the Ohura county for the carriage of coal. The authority heard two applications set down for today.

Mr. AV. McCoard, Matau, applied for an area license. He- ran a general feeder service totho railway at Kiore and collected cream, for the Stratford Dairy Company, which he transferred to another carrier. He * sometimes came to Stratford and had been .making more or less regular trips for seven years.

The license was granted to operate within tho Ngatimaru riding of the Stratford county, with the right to carry goods from Stratford to Matau .and Kiore via Makahu.

The application of E. Howat, Douglas, for route and area licenses was tho last considered. Mr. Howat said he had been carrying with two lorries for nine years. He carried cream from) Te AVer a to Stratford and wanted his license to cover the Makahu' —PuniiWhakau route for when ■ the bridge “was replaced. He delivered pigs and calves from the districts between Huiroa and Puniwhakau to the nearest station and took wool from Tutu:t/awa and Puniwhakau to the rail. There were no largo hack loadings from Stratford. He had also been carting bricks from the Douglas works to Hawera, New Plymouth and Ppunako possibly two or three times a month, “and' at times- did' a little metal carting. ■- Mr. Howat was granted a oneyohicle route authority from Te AV-i-ra to Stratford via the East, Brewer, Mangaehu, TutUtawa and East Roads, one trip each way daily. The application for tho area license was granted for one vehicle to operate in tho Strathmore riding of the AVhangamomona county and the Mangaehu and East ridings of The Stratford county, for the collection of pigs, calves and other livestock and farm, produce from Te AVera, Makahu, TutUtawa,-■ Huiroa and Huinga districts to the nearest railway stations and for the collection of farm produce- from ■ those districts and cartage, into- Stratford, and of bac loading of general merchandise and manure from Stratford to those dis tricts. Tho applicant’s area as to the cartage of bricks from Douglas was authorised to extend to the boundaries of the Taranaki province, and the area licensing authority was stipulated, as.-bcing for one vehicle.
