NEW ZEALAND’S PLAN FOR LICENSING EXPORTS

Press Association. —■Conynght. Banff, Aug. 25

New Zealand’s plan for licensing exports. with the suggestion that imports might also be placed under conti’ol in the future, was examined again at the round-table conference of the Institute of Pacific Relations to-day.

A New Zealand member pressed the idea of eliminating chaotic and wasteful production by determining in advance the market available and buying without tariff barriers goods from the country to which exports were made. Obstacles were presented by other members, who argued that in industrialised countries it would be more difficult to license and control exports, especially where the nation was trying to push the sale of its goods in all corners of the earth.

It was stated that the attempt by governments to set up quotas might end in a worse position than at present. A British member said the depression had been prolonged by Government interference with natural laws.
