A further warning to New Zealanders seeking employment in Shanghai is given by Colonel Thoms commanding the Shanghai Volunteer Corps. Writing to a friend in Wellington he .'ays a New Zealander cannot compote in the motley of Chinese, Rust i. ns and Portuguese, and quotes a case of a man who took his wife and child there landing without a penny to be found, later living in a Chinese hovel on Chinese food. ColThoms, who is a member of the New Zealand Staff Corps, expects to return in about six months.
