WATERSIDER'S ACCIDENT

Claim Made in Court Press Association.— Copyright Wellington, Aug. 18. Damages amounting to £472 12s were claimed in the Supreme Court to-day from Gannaway and Co., stevedores, by Herbert Turner, watersider, who claimed that an accident in which he had '■£ right leg crushed was caused through negligence on the part of employees of the defendant company. He was awarded £155 4s. . Tum6r in evidence said he had four accidents while working on the waterfront but the last was in no way connected with the previous ones. Counsel stated that the defence would be the average earnings by Turner and watersiders generally were considerably less than the estimate in the claim for damages. ~.. / •[' Turner was awarded £155 4s, including £SO as general damages. His' Honour said the evidence was not very satisfactory but he had come to the conclusion that £2 15s a week was a fair amount to allow.
