A White Paper state's the Government decided in favour of reform of the Metropolitan Police Force on the lines of the commissioner, Lord Tren chard's, report and accordingly it is proposed that a certain number of youths will be recruited, by a system of competitive selection for higher posts. A police college is being established for the training of candidates. The marked line of cleavage between the Criminal Investigation Department and the rest of the police is to disappear. The Government hopes for substantial economy of man power as a result of the reforms.
