DAIRY COMPANY ADOPTS SCHEME TO HELP SUPPLIERS OVER WINTER
PAYMENTS FOR LIVING AND FARMING EXPENSES, THEN INTEREST PROPOSAL HAS APPROVAL OF CROWN LANDS COMMISSIONER Press Ascociation.—Copyright. CARTERTON, Today.
THE Bidwell Co-operative Dairy Company, at the Pahiatua Soldier Settlement, inaugurated a scheme to help suppliers over the winter. The last payout by the factory amounted to fourpence. The directors, with the sancition of the Commissioner of Crown Lands, adopted a scheme to pay each individual supplier £8 monthly for actual living expenses, and on top of that sum to pay all farming expenses, such as hay, manures, seed, etc. Under ordinary circumstances the Commissioner of Crown Lands collects the interest first. Under the new arrangement the living expenses will come first, then the farm expenses, and then interest, and the farmer collects the residue at the end of the season. In return, each farmer signs a legal agreement to supply the factory with all his butterfat for a period of three years. The above scheme is based upon a butterfat return equal to sixpence a pound.
