While investigating safe robberies at two suburban railway stations, Birrong and Regent’s Park, this morning two detectives surprised two men breaking a safe at Berala station, which is in the same locality. When the detectives attempted to arrest the men one robber drew a revolver and fired two shots which did no harm. A fierce struggle followed, the detectives firing and wounding one man in the thigh. The other robber escaped but was arrested later. The robbers used a .iemmy during the struggle with the detectives, one of whom was injured in the face. The robbers were father and son.
