AUSTRALIAN CONVERSION
PROPOSED LOAN Press Association. —Copyright. London, May ti. Commenting on the prospect of the Australian conversion loan, the Financial News says the task of the negotiators is to find such an amount as could be placed on the market at 4 per cent, at a reasonable discount without the risk of prolonged market indigestion. It is doubtful whether any effort to deal with, say, all the callable indebtedness carrying a nominal rate of over s ; f per cent, could satisfy these conditions, so it is evident that any scheme must be in the nature of a compromise. That need not prevent Australia dealing with quite a substantial sum.
