DIRECT MAIL PORT
PORT KEMBLA ON SATURDAY New Plymouth will once again serve as a distributing point for Australian mails on 1 the arrival of the Port Nicholson direct from Port Kembla on Saturday. The vessel is bringing 20 bags of mail. Port Kembla is a port 60 miles south of Sydney. The Port Nicholson left there on Tuesday at 5 p.m. The vessel should arrive at New Plymouth late on Saturday morning in time for the mails to be transferred to the 1.50 p.m. New Ply-mouth-Wanganui fast train. At Wanganui the bags will be taken by car to connect with the main trunk expresses. In the event of the vessel’s arrival being later than expected the mails will be held at New Plymouth until Monday. Providing arrangements can be carried out there will be a big saving in time on the present mails. The Wanganella is the next intercolonial mail steamer scheduled, and she will not leave Sydney for Wellington until to-morrow, being due on Tuesday. The Mariposa will leave Sydney on Saturday at 11 a.m. and is due at Auckland on Tuesday at 11 a.m. The Port Nicholson’s consignment therefore provides a channel for mails that would otherwise have had to wait.
