New Zealand’s Action
DISCUSSION IN HOUSE OF COMMONS Press Association— Copyright. London, April 11. —Mr. G. Lambert (Liberal) and Mr. N. K. Lindsay (Conservative) in the House of Commons inquired what action was being taken in relation to the adverse New Zealand and Australian exchanges, the former remarking that they resulted in unfair competition with British producers. Mr. J. H. Thomas, Dominions Socrcsary, said the subject was one on which it was impossible to make repi'csentalions. Mr. Lambert: “Is not New Zealand s deliberate depreciation of her currency a breach of the Ottawa understanding that agricultural that agricultural producers would get a fair share of the British market?”
Mr. Thomas: “I do not think it was deliberate.”
Mr. Percy Harris (Liberal): “Are you aware that the depreciation decision was taken against the advice of the British Government? Its effect has wiped out the advantage of the preference for British goods.” Mr. Thomas: “New Zealand is a Dominion, ar.d it is not for me to question the means whereby it arrived at its decision.”
