Mills, Cook, Robinson (s). Makuri Swamp Survey The surveying party of six men engaged on the large tract of swamp land known as the Makuri swamp are making favourable progress. Some time ago the proposal to drain the area received the support of the Strafford Unemployment Committee and also the majority of settlers in the district, and subsequently the Public Works Department authorised a survey of the land. A considerable amount of preliminary work was required, stated Mr. T. Anderson, of the Public Works Department, Stratford, to The Post to-day, and he could make no definite statement as to the progress of the work.

inquest Procedure Since Sergeant T. Kelly, late detec-tive-sergeant at Auckland, has been in Stratford, he, has conducted inquests in a manner that deals with the business on hand quickly and efficiently. Instead of the witnesses giving the actual evidence at the, court, necessitating an official to convey it to paper, a statement is taken from each witness prior to the inquest. The coroner is handed the evidence, it is' road over and then confirmed by witnesses who. of course, have the opportunity of adding any remarks they wish to 1)0 included. The vapidity with which a case is disposed of was instanced to-day when an inquest was held into the death of a woman who died at Pohokura yesterday.

Girls iu Camp Over the Easter period girl members of the various Methodist Bible classes in Taranaki will be in camp in Stratford at the Technical High School. The local committee has arrangements well in hand, and expect to bo able to accommodate in every respect the campers—numbering shout 40 —who are promised a varied and enjoyable time. The camp will ho opened this evening and continue tiT Tuesday morning. A great deal of time will he spent in Bible study and an address will he given on Good Friday evening by the Rev. T. Skuso (Stratford). On Saturday the ordinary routine will he replaced by rumbles to various interesting localities, and a church parade will be held on Sunday. Mrs. Cummings (Stratford) has been appointed camp mother, and a local committee has charge of arrangements, including the provision of: supplies, a great deal of which has been donated.
