Canberra, Today,—A special Gazette issued yesterday an. nounced the prohibition of the export of bananas from Norfolk Island. Mr Marr, the Minister for Health, explained there was an arrangement whereby the islanders exported 1500 cases of bananas to New Zealand every six weeks. Yesterday being export day, on e grower attempted to steal a march on his fellow exporters by hurriedly placing aboard the ves--0 set the full consignment of 1500 cases belonging to himself and a few friends. Other growers were left with their fruit and were compelled to seek the aid of the Federal Government which irn. mediately promulgated a prohibition order. Mr Marr added that, the ship’s cap. tain immediately set about unloading the bananas in order to escape demurrage charges.
