RAILWAY FREIGHTS
CHARGES FOR STOCK NOT PROPORTIONATE TO VALUES REDUCTION URGENTLY NEEDED Hamilton, Nov. 5. —Complaint of unduly high freight charges by the Railway Department on stock in comparison with their present day values was voiced to a Waikato Times representative today bv a well known local stock agent. "Farmers, stock agents and fat stockbuyers on all sides are complaining of the failure of th 0 Railway Depart, ment to reduce stock freight rates to a level in keeping with the market value of the animals," he said. "In many cases the freight is actually as much as 25 Per cent, of (lie value of the animals, and from evidence in various directions (here is quite a 'ot of business drifting away from the railways because of this. The farm, ers cannot afford to pay the high rates, and their stock are goin.g by road instead. The Government is urging us all to reduce costs and at the same time is doing nothing whatsoever to assist us. Rail freights are out of all proportion to any other charges."
