CRICKET AT THE PARK

USE OF FOOTBALL GROUND WANTED PROBLEM BEFORE DOMAIN BOARD The Stratford Domain Board met last night, the Mayor, Mr Percy Thomson, presiding. Mr W. J. Hall, on behalf of the Stratford Cricket Club, asked for information as to when the cricket ground would be available for use. The Mayor advised that the secretary, Mr. Sandford, had waited on him, but after* inspecting the ground with the engineer, he had notified the club that he was not prepared to grant the use of the ground at the present. _ A resolution to this effect was carried. Mr Harkness said play on the ground at present would have serious consequences. The Stratford soil was not a heavy one like W.anganui or Palmerston North. Mr H. C. Johnson said the young grass was just beginning to come on the middle of the grounds and to allow cricket to be played there would cruise considerable damage. The outside portions'of the held was in better state. •• On the motion of th e Mayor the question of allowing the cricket club the use of the football field was left in the hands of Messrs Harkness and Johnson. Mr Pinnerty considered that no traffic should be allowed over the ground at all. Like other members, he fully sympathised with the cricket club. •<!•:..
