It is most probable that I Commentator's trip North will prove | to have been worth while, as he appears nub or outstanding' in the Grecnmount Steeplechase field, though Absent, I'Lenaubhr 'General Lu and Roadman will all' have supporters COMMENTATOR, ABSENT and LENAUBIN appeal most. HARRIS MEMORIAL HUNTERS HURDLES, of £100; l\ miles.—Car. gen 10.4, Te Homai 10.0, Thespis 9.8, Tapapa, Arapawa, Carl Hertz, Lurina. ,' John Bull, Emancipation 9.0. | • Cargen is by far the best performled hurdler engaged in the Harris Hunters' Hurdles, but Te Homai j should also be dangerous in this class. J Thespiis ifj Confidently expected to j prove an acquisition to the jumping i game, while Tapapa ran good races I at. Ellerslie last June. However, CARjG EN has won against vastly better class. THESPIS and TE ' HOMAI should keep him going. j SYLVIA PARK HANDICAP, icf ' £100; 7 fur.—lmamint 9.3, L'Allegro j 9.0, Royal Gallant 5.6, Gigantic, Phy. | ohologist 8.5. Sea Ruler 8.0, Bambury ■7llO, Bugle Call, Lord) A,intree 7.2, Sweet Whisper, Illuminagh, Kahau, Traced, On Approval, Vilma, Shon Latour. Golondrina, Confuoco, Merry Lap, Demylus, Delrain 7.0. I Good winning form and unknown j *<<v are well blended in the Syl. j via Park Handicap held, which num. j Ivors 21. Imamint and Royal Gallant j are undoubtedly the form horses, but ■ Gigantic, Sea Ruler and Bambury j were all speedy youngsters, which j raced successful!" last autumn. Lord f Aintree has a big reputation for ! speed A surprise may easily eventuate, but form suggests IMAMINT, |ROYAL GALLANT and GIGANTIC. TRENTHAM FORM MAY POINT THE WAY I JELLICOE HANDICAP, of £200; jll miles.—Chief Link 9.0, Corjnax j 8.8, Royal Artist 7.12, Protcmhit 7.10, i King's Archer 7.8, Malahat 7.4, Maori [Boy, True Blood 7.2, Gay Cockade, j Te Hoja, Catoma, Patutahi, Prince of I Orange, Royal Survey, Cruachan 7.0. i Last month's Trentham, running j would seem to p'int the way for the I Jellicoe Handicap, the principal flat i lace of the day. Chief Link, which ' recorded the notable feat of winning j on each of the three 'days at TreuI tham, and Protomint, which recorded | a most impressive performance en i the final day. both have the advantage i tomorrow of being in seasoned racing I condition, while most of the other I competitors have not raced for some months. Chief Link also has an en„ I gugement later in the day, but ii ', started in the Jellicoe Handicap, the j Hawera candidate and! Pitotomtfnt ; look like battling out the honours Three others that must be respected are King's Archer and Royal Artist I (both with fair pretensions to class) I and last year's winner, Malahat, The preference is for CHIEF LINK (if started), PROTOMINT and ROYAL ARTIST.
: WHAT WILL TROUBLE TROUBLE? I PAKURANGA HUNT CUP, of £250. J About three miles —Masho'or 10.5, i Trouble 10.0, Absent 9.9, General Lu j 9.G, Lena u bin 9.0, Cat-i-mes, Haakon, Arapawa, Roadman, Beila, Koewhiwhi, Galapago 9.0. On performances, the Pakuranga ! Jlunt Cup Steeplechase appears to j rest between the Ellerslie winner in June, Mashoor, and the Awapuni steeplechaser, Trouble, which recently defeated Mr. Russell Grace's Winnagan at his last outing in the Hawke's Bay. Northern critics are freely booming the chances of HaaI ken, a young steeplechaser, which per. j formed) most encouragingly at the j Ellorslie winter carnival. Caf-i-mes > and Absent are "possibles." However, j it is likely that TROUBLE will find ! most trouble coming from MASHOOR I and HAAKON. j AUCKLAND HANDICAP, of £IOO. j One mile—Princess Bede 8.12, HawI thorn 8.0, 'feels 7.7, Welcome Lu 7.:'., j Marching Song, Land Lubber, Kiltowyn, Kind Words, Top Light, Pantheon f., .Jewelled Girdle 7.0. The recent, performances of Hawthorne on the Gisborne circuit would seem to give him very bright pros- | poets in the Auckland Handicap. I However, Princess Bede is a good j class hack, and so is Teels. The pick i may he HAWTHORNE, PRINCESS , BEDE and TEELS. I j LADIES' BRACELET HANDICAP, ! of £IOO. One mile and a-quarter—Val- ! simon 11.3, Thespis 11.1, Tapapa 10.7, i Clontarf Bill 10.7, John Bull 10.7, Con- | sort 10.7, Egyptian King 10.7, Lurina j ic.7. j It will not need a good horse to I win the Ladies' Bracelet, and Thes, | pis has the reputation of being well j above the average. la fact, Thespis ; is considered a good performer in the | making, so that his bubble will as | suredlv burst should he fail tomor- ; row. Apart Horn THESPIS, VAL. ! SIMON and TAPAPA seem the most ! likely. | SEASONED SPRINTERS APPEAL ! DUNEDIN, HANDICAP, of £150; JC fur.—Chief Link 9.0, High Comedy I 8.7\ Sargon 8.1, Chromadyne 7.7, 1 ,Kjng Ford', Vandyke 7U, Hampton ; Park 7.1, Imamint, Golondriiia, Wer.,
POPULAR ELLERSLIE MEETING TG-MORROW'S FIELDS AND FORM (By "Sir Oracle") 170 R three paramount reasons, the annual fixture (to-morrow) I , of the Pakuranga Hunt Club will be accorded an important place in the Dominion's world of racing. Firstly, Pakuranga represents New Zealand's principal Hunt fixture. Secondly, the meeting takes place at popular Ellerslie; and thirdly, under the new broadcasting arrangements, the meeting is likely to p.rovide almost as much interest for those away from the course as for those actually in attendance. The fields engaged do not appear very difficult for form followers to solve, and several runners (on form) are outstanding in their respective races. Under this category, "Sir Oracle" nominates Commentator, Cargen, Chief Link, Protomint, Thespis and Hawthorne.
iitai, Lord Aintree, Baroscope, Cru. chan 7.0. If Chief Link be reserved for the Dmiedin Handicap, then form followers are hardly likely toi look beyond Mr. Alex. Alexander's candidate. But should the Jellicoe Handicap prove Chief Link's mission, then the Dun edin Handicap will bear a most open aspect. High Comedy represents good springing class, but aiiay need the race. Sargon is attempting a come, back, and will be watched with in, tcrest. King Ford, Chrornadyne and Vandyke are all seasoned and a spe. dally likely trio, while Imaminl should set the merriest of paces. The seasoned sprinters CHIEF LINK (ii reserved), KING FORD and VANDYKE make most appeal.
