RETURNED SOLDIER MORTGAGORS
FURTHER CONSIDERATION GRANTED WELLINGTON, Friday.—The Government has agreed to grant further conisderatiomto returned soldier mortgagors’who are dependent upon their pension payments to meet rental obligations in respect of dwelling houses, lit' these instances special concessions are to be allowed in respect of the granting of rebates for prompt payments.
It has been represented to the Minister of Lands that in many instances these mortgagors are returned soldiers in receipt, of war pensions which are payable on about the 20th of each month. To enable these mortgagors to take advantage of these payments in meeting their rent instalments the regulations under the Discharged Soldiers’ Settlement Act have been amended to enable the Commissioner of Crown Lands, subject to compliance with other conditions, to allow a rebate if- the instalment is paid within 25 days of the due date. The amended regulations apply only to mortgages in respect of dwellings j Thirty, clays’, grace is allowed for pay in respect 'of-rural iaaid.
