In view ef the present parlous condition of the coal trade it is under, stood some modifications of the existing agreements have been imperative. Before closing the conference the chairman, Mr. Flavol, expressed appreciation of (lie fair-minded spirit which had prevailed. It is hoped as a result of the conference that a settlement will he effected, hut in view of the uncertain conditions prevailing it is understood in any case the agreement will he for a much shorter period than formerly.
