TRAINING OF NURSES
WELLINGTON HOSPITAL MAKES CHANGE
WELLINGTON. Thurs. Changes taffecting the nursing profession were (made by the Wellington Hospital Board to-day on the recommendation of the Nurses' and Midwives' Registration Board. It was decided that no pupil nurse be signed on until she had served 12 months' probation. Dr. R. Campbell Begg said that the Nurses' and Midwives' Registration Board had been constantly inundated with applications by pupil nurses seeking transfer from one hospital to another. Unless there was a special reason pupil nurses should complete their training at the hospital at which they started. On the recommendation of its house committee the board decided to advise' the Nurses' and Midwives' Registration Board that it was in favour of the principle of not engaging probationary nurses who had not received two years' post-primary education, but the board reserved to itself the right to deal with each applicant on her merits. •
