Monteath of making a false declaration in connection with the 'audit of the trust account of H. J. M. Thomson, solicitor, of Inglewood, was concluded this evening, Counsel will address the jury to-mor-row. The substance of the charge is that Monteath made a . declaration that he had personally audited and found correct the trust account in which defalcations to the extent of £BOOO were subsequently discovered, and in which connection Thomson and his clerk were recently sentenced. Monteath audited the books in conjunction with an accountant named Nicholls, and admitted that he relied on Nicholls to a certain extent for the detailed work. He trusted Nicholls as a qualified accountant.
