ANTI-AIRCRAFT GUN

A long step toward the protection of London against aircraft attack in the next war is said to have been taken by a new Vickers Armstrong weapon which has been satisfactorily tested (writes Robert K. Risk in the Weekly Scotsman). It has a vertical range of miles (about 27,0.00 ft), and it fires 25 rounds a minute. It is expected to register at least one hit in 10 shots —which compares very favourably with the showers of home shrapnel which London used to sustain during air raids, often without any damage to the enemy. The gun has an effective range of about eight miles, for service against tanks. It pivots round a complete circle. Range-finding and angle of fire are worked out precisely by electrical apparatus so that the gunner need not look at his target. The gun and ite equivalent weigh only ?>l tons. The War Office is said to be highly pleased with this new weapon.
