JUST STOLE IT

HOUSE FURNITURE MAORI’S NOVEL PROCEDURE WANGANUI, May 26. Quite a novel procedure of obtaining' the furniture for their house was followed by two Maoris at Casllocliff recently. As tlioy were to be married and had little or no furniture of their own with which to leather their nest, the night before the wedding’ they decided that somebody else’s furniture would bo quite as good as any they could purchase themselves. So they broke into the house of Mrs. Hawkins, n 1; Castlecliff, and carried away nearly enough furniture to furnish a house of their own. Const able Miller was informed, and he quickly traced the missing articles, with the result that llangi Marino and his wife, Queenie Marino, nee Thompson, were brought before Mr. J. H. Salmon, S.M., yesterday afternoon. Twelve months’ probation was imposed on the husband, who was ordered to pay the police expenses, while the wife was ordered to come up lor sentence if called upon. Marino is 22 years of age, while his wife is IS. They wore both advised to return to their home up the river and warned to keep out of further trouble. Among the articles removed from the house wore live chairs and a double mattress, a duchess runner, a quantity of cups and saucers, electric light bulbs, a kettle and a bed. Everything was returned to the rightful owner.
