The race was notable an being run on the finest and hottest day in its history, and in perfect conditions generally, in the presence of half a million people. Twenty-eight horses completed the first round and 12 finished, which Is unprecedented. The time of the race, Drain 32 4-Ssec, is a record. The race was marred by two tragedies. In addition to Swift Ronald, who was killed by another horse jumping on his head when he was down, Drin broke a leg and was destroyed. Gyi Lovam fell ai Beecher’s Poplar, was remounted and went on for a mile, when lie, fell again. Another horse, Big Black Boy, was also injured and may have to he destroyed. No jockeys were hurt.
