DANGER TO GISBORNE

FEARS OF ISOLATION BAD ROADS IN WINTER The danger of Gisborne becoming isolated during the winter was referred to in a letter received by the Auckland Automobile Association from its Gisborne agents. The letter stated that the road between Wairoa and Napier would to a considerable extent be swept away on the first serious break of the weather, and the possibilities of having a reasonable motor road during the coming winter were very remote. There no passenger service by sea between Gisborne and Auckland, nor between Gisborne and Napier, so that, with flooded creeks on the Motu Road, Gisbornq would be completely isolated. The association was requested to urge the authorities to lose no time in putting in hand the work necessary to ensure an all-weather road to Napier.

It was stated that the matter would he considered at the next meeting of the Highways Board, and no action was taken.
