TASMAN YACHT RACE
PRACTICALLY A CERTAINTY THREE BOATS MAY COMPETE AUCKLAND, March 10. No final has been reached in the negotiations for an ocean yacht race across the Tasinan from Auckland to Australia. , The owner of the Oimara, Mr Bennell, who is virtually the challenger, stated to-night that the race was practically a certainty and he was prepared to postpone the start until Saturday. The owner of Teddy, Mr E. Tambs, is very kcc» to start and hopes to secure backing by to-morrow and accept the challenge. An Auckland yacht, the name of which is not yet announced, may also start under the command of Lieut.-Commander Juler, who came across in the Oimara. Mr Beunell said that as matters stood, the boats were competing for the honour and glory of the race, but a suitable trophy might be presented. He had been told that the late Sir Joseph Ward once presented a trophy for a similar race across the Tasnian. The trophy, he understood, had never been won, and if it could bo traced r.ow, and the heir's wife was willing, it would make a fine prize for the winning crow.
