FLYING-BOAT DISASTER
CRASH AT PLYMOUTH FOUR INJURED; EIGHT MISSING - I ' ' STRIKES WATER WITH TERRIFIC FORCE LONDON, Feb. 4. The Royal Air Force Blackburn Iris, a triple-engined flying-boat attached to the Mountbatten air station, with 12 aboard, crashed at Plymouth Sound. Four are critically injured and eight are missing. The machine struck the water with terrific force, an explosion following. There are eight victims, including Wing-Com-mander C. Turner, who was trapped in the cabin and quickly drowned. Horrified witnesses saw the flyingboat crash 150 yards from the shore and quickly rushed to the Spot. It > is believed that the pilot when descending mistook the water-level owing to' the sun shining in his eyes. Diving operations have begun. ■ Among those dead are SergeantPilot E.
