(BY VERONICA). Miss Malone returned on Saturday after a visit to Mrs. Spttmlo in Napier and Mrs.. Cullin in Wanganui. Miss J. Coleman left for Wellington on Thursday. She. will bo tho guest of her aunt Mrs. Thompson. Miss O. Uniaeke returned. to Stratford from Now Plymouth on Saturday. Miss Boi, of the staff of the New Plymouth Hospital, was visiting friends in Stratford at the end of the week. Mrs. Wynyard sen. (Auckland) is visiting her daughter-in-law, Mrs. L. Wynyard. Mrs. Yarndley entertained some friends at tennis on Sunday afterno'on. Mrs. Lyons gave a bridge evening on Monday. Those present were: Mrs. Hall, Dr. Doris' Gordon, Mrs. Hunt, Mi*. The 'annual sale of work in aid of Holy Trinity Church funds was held on Tuesday; in the Parish Hall. The various attractive stalls did very good business during the afternoon and evening, the sellers being indefatigable, in tlieir -efforts to dispose of their charming and useful wares. On Wednesday afternoon a most delightful party was given in the Cardiff Hall by the Cardiff ladies for the Stratford members of the Women's Division, of the Farmers' .Union. The tea tables were charmingly and artistically decorated with Iceland poppies of blending shades. A'very dainty tea was served.. Some musical items were given during the afternoon) Mrs. Davis sang beautifully. Miss Gadsby also rendered some delightul vocal items. There were several amusing competitions, Mrs. Burton being the winner of otic- and Mrs. P. Thomson, another. Those present were: Mrs. Phillips l-presftlml)}, MJite. W. H. Mrs. Phillips made a very interesting speech when thanking tho ladies of Cardiff on behalf of the guests for the delightful entertainment they had given to them. Mrs. Phillips likewise touched upon the aims and object of tho movement and mentioned many things of use especially to country members. The next meeting is to he held on Tuesday 11th November at 2 p.m. at the Mayoress's, Mrs. Thomson's residence, Hamlet Street, the occasion being the celebrating of the 'local branches's' birthday.
SURPRISE PARTY. A very jolly "surprise party" was given to Mrs. Meyrick, Hawera, on Wednesday night. Wonderful lireworks on the beach there were of all descriptions. A dance after wards as held in "Black Maria", very tastefully and elaborately decorated for the occasion, the lighting effects being particularly good. Miss N. Spence, Miss C. Uniacke, Miss M. Malone, Mr. A. Budge, Mr. J. Hamilton and Mr. 13. Gill, went from here to join the fun. Mrs. Hill, Mangatoki was at home on "Wednesday.
_ THE MINSTRELS. The Swanee River Minstrels scored a great success on Thurisday night at the Town Hall, which was
literally parked. The performance witfl breezy wid \joHy Hlirougihout, and caused much fun and merriment. Miss Evelyn Moon presided at td/o piano iwith her' usual artistic perception. Sho certainly doserves much praise for all tho work sho has done U» make Oio whole the success it was.
