THE STRATFORD CLUI3. PAST YEAR’S OPERATIONS REVIEWED. The report to be presented to tonight’s annual metting of the Old Pupils’ Amateur Swimming Club states that from a financial view, point the season was not a* prosperous as the first one. The receipts amounted to £34 ,3s 6d and the disbursements to £37 9s Gdj leaving a deficiency o? £3 6s on the year’s operations. The loss could be attributed to the poor gate takings at the carnivals and to the heavy expense incurred in renovating and increasing the seating accommodat’ ion at tlio baths. That work, however, was a permanent mentTwo (carnivals ,were held during the season, but were not well pat. ronised owing to counter attractions. Club nights were held weekly, buet unfortunately were not tauten full advantage of ,especially by senior members- The school boys’ cup donated by Mr. V. J. Henderson, was won by Trevor Villers and the committee desired to thank Mr. Henderson for donating the cup, which promoted competition and did much towards popularising the sport among the younger swimmersCongratulations were due to Mr. A- S. Robson on his fine performance in winning the Flannagan Cup as the competition was the most important in Taranaki. Two dances were held after the carnivals and were much appreciated by the visiting swimmers. Although they did not show a profit the dances helped to bring the swimmers together and to strengththe friendship among members- of the various clubs. It was unfortunate that the club had lost the services of some of its proficient members through their having left Stratford, but with *ie ytmngjer (swimmers coming on and the new talent available a successful season was looked forward toThanks .were due to those who donated trophies, to those who acted as officials at the two carnivals and to Mr. C.
