A Successful Year
jSTKATEOIM) VOLUNTEER El EE umOADA, THE ANNUAL MEETING. A satisfactory state of affairs was disclosed at last night’s annual meeting of members of the Stratford Fire Brigade, at which Superintendent .L B. Davis presided. ANNUAL EE PORT.
The annual report stated that the receipts for the year ending September 30th amounted to £B3 4s sd, including £3l 5s 7d brought forward from the previous year. The expenditure was £65 9s, leaving a credit balance of £ls 15s 3d. During the year there were 37 musters, and the average of attendance wa s 33. Three members gained full marks —L. B. Davis, E. Brocklebank and D. Butcher. Three men had 36 attendances and six had 35. Alarms during the year numbered twelve, a
number in excess of the previous year, but only two were of a serious nature, there being a total loss in each case. Both of these fires were outside the reach of the brigade. The annual ball was not patronised as it deserved, but both it and the ChildTen’s ball were most enjoyable and successful, and thanks were due to the public for their generous assistance towards supper arrangements.
The total strength of the brigade was 20. One new member joined during the year and two messengers were promoted to liremen. One member resigned and one dropped out. De-
puty-Superintendent King was granted three months’ leave of absence. A social evening was tendered to the ladies who assisted at the annual ball. Too much praise could not be given' these ladies, who worked so untiringly to make the ball the success it deserved to be, and the brigade desired to thank them whole-heartedly. for their efforts. A euchre tournament was run through the winter months, and great credit was due to the committee elected to run it. A great deal of labour was entailed and there had' not been a hitch throughout. Firemen E. Brocklebank, as secretary of that committee, did splendid work, and the funds should benefit considerably as a result of the effort. Thanks were extended to the Mayor and Councillors for 'their consideration during the past year, to all who had assisted in any way, to the public, the hon. surgeon, the timekeepers, the auditor, the Fire Committee of the Borough Council and the press. In' moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, the chairman said the brigade was to be congratulated on the year’s work. The average attendance at musters was tvery good indeed, and with this and with the general, conduct of members he was very pleased, A competition' gub-committee had been set up during the year, aaid this had resulted in a great deal of work being taken off the secretary’s shoulders. The report and balance-sheet 1 were adopted without discussion. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The following officers were elected:— Superintendent: L. B. Davis. . Deputy-Superintendent; E. Brocklebauk.
