REICHSTAG OPENING. PRECAUTIONARY METHODS WILD SCENES IN STREETS. press Association —Copyright, (Received 12.40 p.m.) BERLIN, October 13. The removal of in'kpots, previously used as missies, from the desks of the Reichstag, is one of the precautionary methods the authorities have adopted in readiness for to-day's opening. This is in view of expect, ed liveliness due to 107 Naylis and 77 Communists taking their seats. Other precautions included massing of many police inside and outside the building. Communists were shouted" down with the Nayis leaders ( when ma/king efforts to speak, hut deputies heard a statement from Communists urging the stoppage of the Young Reparations Plan, which was negatived. While the Reichstag scenes were n'ot as stormy as expected, enormous crowds gathered outside shouting: "Hail Hitler", and "Germany awake," tßie Communists counter demonstrating. Many attempted to rush the Reichstag, but Ihe police charged with batons' while mounted police rode in the crowd. Stone throwing and shouting began, but the crowd was dispersed after nearly a hundred arrests had been made. Meanwhile the Fascists, taking advantage of the police concentrating at the Reichstag raided unprotected, business streets with cries of "awaken Germany", ami "hail Hitler." They attacked supposed Jewish shops, cafes and hotels, smashing all windows especially in the big stores.

Reports indicate that the rioting in one of Berlin's chief shopping centres was the most serious of all the inciderits. The mob were driven back from the Reichstag and broke up into organised groups, numbering from twenty to two hundred, and streamed about the streets shouting: "Down with the Jews."
