Murdock explained the Government’s proposals regarding the petrol tax. He said the consolidated fund had no money wherewith to continue the annual grant of £235,000 to the Main Highway fund. The Petrol Tax was the only alternative, and Parliament could approve it oj* reject it as it liked. Mr Murdock stated definitely that there was no intention of cutting out the subsidy cn local body rates.
