Thomson) made a few remarks. DEMAND OF EFFICIENCY. He had pleasure, said Mr. Thomson, in joining with the local Antomobilio Association in welcoming tho car to Stratford. Manufacturers had of late done much in improving the general appearance of ears, to which a good deal of importance was attached; hut there was a still more
insistent and increasing demand—lor efficiency* reliability and economy. It was pleasing to know that manufacturers were meeting that demand, and the presence of the car was a pleasant circumstance as giving the public an opportuniy of seeing something of what was being done to meet the public demand. 'I lie ear had loft Wellington unded the most happy auspices, having the, helssiug of the chairman of the Wellington Autoniihile Association. Ho (the speaker) was glad to know that the trip so far had been very successful, and lie expressed the hoipe that on its conehiision the success would bo complete. (Applause). CONFIDENCE OF HUDSON. Air. Vincent H. Frcetli, director of the Oatts-Patterson N.Z.) Co. Ltd., who is in charge of the tour acknowledged the welcome extended to the party. Ho expressed pleasure
of the, cordial welcome to Stratford and thanked the Mayor lor his references to the endeavours of motoring engineers to produce cars of highest efficiency. The car undergoing the test was entirely a stock one. 2hr. Hum. Hawera, to Stratford: 19.5 miles, time 42min., petrol 65 pints, miles per gallon 23.1:11, miles per hour 27.8751. Average for the run so far: Miles per gallon 25.799, miles per hour 28.323. Mr. Freeth said the last stage had been covered under adverse conditions. The run was 11 short one, and getting the ear warmed up at the start pulled the average down. In addition a good number of stock were encountered on the road. Further difficulty arose Horn the sun striking on the glass container in '•which Hie petrol is carried at the front of the car, partially blinding the driver. Air. Freeth told a “Post’’ representative that the party bad been received everywhere with the greatest cordiality. At AVanganni a great many car s turned out to escort the touring car and the spectators block -ed Maria Place.
