Railway Employee Killed
POPULAR DRIVER OF EASTERN TRAIN, FELL ODER TRUCKS AT TAHORA. Mr Harry W. Kelly, well known as the driver of the eastern train, was killed in the Tahora station yard last night by being run over by a train during shunting operations. The train had arrived at Tahora, and at about 7 o’clock Mr Kelly was asssting in shunting. An engine was backing twelve trucks, and Mr Kelly was standing on the brake of the leading truck. Nobody can say how the accident happened, but by some means Mr Kelly got on the line under the trucks, and it was only after the trucks and engine had passed over him that it was found that anything wrong had happened. The late Mr Kelly, whose age was 49, was of a very likeable disposition and was very popular both in Stratford and at Whangamomona, where he resided. He had been driving the eastern train for about sixteen years, and had only about four years to serve before he could retire on superannuation. H e is survived by his widow and six to whom and to other relatives a wide circle of friends will extend sympathy.
