PUBLIC WORKS PLANT ON RENTAL BASIS

MINISTERS PROPOSAL TO CO-OPERATIVE PARTIES

CLAUSE IN AGREEMENT. DISSATISFACTION EXPRESSED. Press Association— rrojiyriKht. WELLINGTON, This Day. The use of the Public Works Department’s plant on a rental basis as an alternative to a deduction in the present rate of pay i(s the proposal the Minister of Public Works is submitting to co-operative parties engaged in the construction of Tawa Flat tunnels. Consideration was given to the proposal at a meeting of men at Johnsonville when a resolution was /carried expressing dissatisfaction with the Minister’s suggestion. The Hon. A. E. Ransom explains that the original contract prjice was based on the work being carried out without the heavy plant the department had installed, and a clause was inserted in the contract papers that the price would be revised when the plant was working. “The plant is now in operation, but the revision of price has ‘not been made. This is what I propose,’’ said the Minister.
