Mr Ramsay iVlaac.Donald issued, a statement to journalists in the name of Britain: "We are very well satisfied. I think th e agreement is a substantial |step in the direction towards which we have been striving in the face of difficulties which at times appeared to be almost insurmountable. "We are most grateful to the press for the way it has helped us, not only fo r what it has said but also for what it has left unsaid." - RESULTS REVIEWED COMPLETE AGREEMENT. (British Official Wireless) RTTGBY, April 11. The results of the Naval Conference were reviewed by Mr. Alexander in a speech fit Sheffield, when ho said that we had now arrived at a complete agreement with Japan and the United States on all classes of ships iVid what was most important to remember upon very much lower figures that those of the last proposals made at the Geneva Conference In 1927. Moreover the Powers had mutually agreed to waive, pending a further conference in 1935, their rights under the Washington Treaty to build
any of the capital ships, provided in thiat treaty, to bo laid down from 1931 onwards. CAPITAL SHIPS. It had also been agreed to reduce the numbers of capital ships to the minimum figures provided for in the Washington Treaty 'with the least posible delay, instead of waiting until J 936. This meant the early wrapping of five British cruisers, three Amor, ioan" and one Japanese. Another great achivement had been the rectification of the tendency to build the largest siVe cruiser permitted under tho Washington treaty. Mr. Alexander sa'id he thought the greatest value of the agreement already secured was; to be found in tho helpful and moral effect created. There was also valuable economic advantages in the reduction of expenditure.
