GROWING DEMAND. DUBLIN, March 27. Dr. T. A. managing director of the Electricity Supply Board, the semi-statutory body which controls the Shannon hydro-electricity undertaking, declares that 1930 will see the scheme no longer a dream, but a reality, and its success not a matter of prophecy, but of fact. "I am more optimistic than ever", he says, "as to the prospects, of the scheme, and my optimism is reinforced by the experience gained from the last year in the demand for electric, ity for household and power purposes in areas already served. A particularly gratifying feature i,s the way in which people are using current for lighting purposes. Last rear created a record for the demand of electricity in the Dubln, Rathmnes and Pembroke areas. Next year v ill see an even bigger demand, stimulated by exceptionally low rates which the new scheme brings into operation". It was. announced by the board that a revised scale of charges for electricity would come into operation for the districts referred to above. Under the new system consumers would be offered the option cf a flat rate or a rate based on the Poor Law valuation of the houses.
