INUiN tE K S R tPO KT. Tho Engineer (Mr. .1. W. Spence) submitted tho following report on tho past, month’s work at Saturday’s meeting of the Stratford County Council;
Notijtb Riding.—’During past month tho side tracks of the Salisbury Road have been jmnjdo np, coated (B'itli crushed shingle, clayblinded and rolled. A wooden, culvert on the Esk Road has been replaced with 10 twenty-one-inch concrete pipes.
South Riding.—Tho Bird Roarf, between the Robson Road and the Ngaire stream has boon coated with bitumen.. Sand nml light shingle have been placed on the Climie, Finuorty,- Bird and Skinner Roads to prevent bleeding. Shingle and boulders have been put through ffe crusher at Cornwall Bon'd and distributed on the Bird and Wingrov© Roads for bitumen bleeding. The reject stone will bo used in) building up tbo sides of the Mountain Road. Maintenance metal baa been placed on. tbo Sole, Warwick and Victoria Roads.
East Riding (Toko).—The bitumen surfaces where necessary, have been ro-blinded on the Obura, Beacon sfleld and Wawjri Roads ’ Maintenance metal from the Gordon Road pit has been distributed on tue following roads: Obura, Wowin', Toko TsUo® T (and JB,- lAhunoa East atnd West and Standish. A coat of shellrock screenings has been placed on Toko No. 1.
East Riding (Douglas). —General maintenance work in the wa{v of metal patching, water-tabling and r 1i P clearing has been carried out on the Obura-‘Mangaohu and Mangaotnku Roads. A start bas been made irn metalling parts cf the Horse-shoe Bend.
East Riding (ITuiroa). —The works carried out during the month are as follows: Makuri Road, metal patching, watertabling and trimming off grass edges • Mobakan, water-tab-ling; Douglas South ,general surface repairs; Douglas North rind Tuxmpo, slip clearing!; Aknmn, gravel patching and water-tabling.
West Riding.—The formation on ftlio recently refaced portion cf tlie Duthie Road lias been -widened to 24 feet and the metal tanked up. The bitumen) required in preparing road oil for the Cardiff, Climio and Thithie Roads lias been carted to the boiler site at Malice. Repair •work has been done on the Waincon* o-oro Road. This road has been cla|y-blinded.
Mangachu Riding.—On, the Mangaelm Main a small (slip has been cleared away, the debris from the culverts removed, the water-tobies cleaned out, a washout repaired, metal surfaces in places, made up, also minor repairs to the bridge near the Kaitieke Road. Fine metal from the sides of the Malngaotuku have been used for blinding the surface. All maintenance metal has beera used np. Further supplies axe to be obtained from the crusher site at Puniwhakau. Metal patching and blinding halve been carried out cm the Tututawa Road. Several Ismail slips on the Mangaehu South have been cleared away. The water-tab-les on this arid Perry Road have been cleaned out. Willows have been cut, small slips cleared, bridge repairs and metal patching have been, dcino on the Puniwhakau Road. Seven yards of pit shingle boVe been used in repairing a soft portion) of tbe Mangaehu North. A culvert bad to be takciiii np to dean out the polar roots with which it. was completely blocked, the wheel ruts have been filled. The contractors have completed the work of cleaning the slips on the Manga. This road is again open for dray traffic. Nglatimaru Riding.—From reports received quite extensive works are' required on the Matau Valley Roald between, the two low level bridges. Blips of considerable ' proportions have ccnio downy carrying scrub, timber and fences with them. Further work will also he necessary at the approaches to the first bridge. On the Mangoapa Road the water* tables have been cleaned out and overhanging scrub cuti *way. The grader has been run over parts of the Junction Road West. Slips and water-tables on this road have been attended to. General repair work has been carried out om the Matau Junction l(JE3ast) and Mangamaive Roads repairs have been been. effected to the Matau bridge. A. new corbel h;% been placed in position.
