MANOY’S LIMITED.

IN BUSINESS IN STRATFORD FOB 21 YEARS. A successful business, which has grown up with the town, is that of Messsrs. Manoy’s Ltd., which is now celebrating its twenty-first year of operation, in Stratford. Mr Adolph Manoy commenced business in 1909 in premises near j the present shop of Air A. H. Hillock I The complete staff then consisted I of Mr Manoy and his daughter, Miss R. Manoy. In 1914 a move was made, to the site at present occupied by the business, the building being of one storey with a frontage of twenty feed.. Previously the site had heeu occupied by Mr Collins’ blacksmith shop, as evidence of which cart tyres are still to be found in the back yard. Two years later in 191 G, a further niece of frontage was acquired, Mrs Barker’s confectionery shop, adjoining, being taken over. Mr Manoy was then employing a staff of live assistants. In

1923 the business was formed into a limited liability company, when Mr |W. K. Hoskin joined the firm as a | director. The present flqe twoj storey concrete building was erected I in 1925 and to-day a staff of eighteen j assistants is required to cone with the firm’s business. Soon after opening up in Stratford. in 1913, Mr Manoy opened a branch at Whangamomona, and tvo years ago a further branch was opened at Tangarakan. Oci the firm’s books are to be found hundreds of names of people who were customers when the business was opened. In . some cases the people are those who have traded continuously with the firm; while in other cases they are the children of orinigal customers, who have married and settled in the district.
