(Motor Cyclist's Injury. The young man, Harris, who was injured in the recent collision at the'corner of. Cheal and Mountain Roads, had one of his ankles spraio r ed and crushed, and he will probahly be laid aside for some weeks. Miniature Kifle Shooting, There was a good muster at the Drillshed last night for the Miniature Rifle Club's weekly shoofi when a keenly-contested handicap competition was put on four scores of 48 out of a poss/le 50 betajg registered. A Logging Accident. A man named Duncan 'Davidson was admitted to the Stratford Hospital this, afternoon suffering from a fra c turo of thei leg just below .the knee. He was engaged on a farm on Barclay road in shifting a log, a horse pullin-r it by means of a chain attached to"*he middle of & One end of the log stuck in the ground, causing the other to swing round suddenly, breaking Davidson's leg.
Taranaki Band Contest. permission has been received from the North Island Brass Bands Association for the holding of the annual contest of the Taranaki Brass and Pipe Band Association at Eltham on March 13th next, and already Eltham people are organising in order to ensure a successful gathering. The following music has been sent out: B grade, selection, "Carmen" No. 1 (Bizet), march "Waning Hazard" (W. C. Chapman); C. grade, selection "Carmen," No. 11. (Bizet), march "The Exile" lE. A. Weaver).
Athletic Sports Bates. At yesterday's meeting of the Taranaki centre of the Athletic and Cycling U(D,ion, the following dates were allotted: Stratford March 13th, Midhirst March 20th, Pukengahu March 27th, April 10th, Pungarelvu, Urenui Easter Monday. Stratford is to negotiate with Midhirst for an exchange of dates. Midhirst was allotted May Bth for a chopping meeting. Waitui desire to hold their meeting on May Ist. Urenui intend to hold a purely cycling meeting in October next, just before the round-the-Mountain race. )
j Alleged Irregularity. A protest was received at yesterday's meeting of the Taranaki centre of the Athletic aqd Cycling Union from two Stratford men in reference to a rae e under the auspices of the Stratford Cycle Club. — The chairman (Mr A. J. Hansen) said the meeting could do nothing, as the club was not affiliated.—Mr 1 T. Kirkwood said that there was no rule niakfiig affiliation necessary.— ' The secretary (Mr A. Melville) said 1 Kaponga, Waitara and Eltham had paid the affiliation fee.—After discussion it was decided to refer the question to the head body.—The secretary said the Inglewood club ' was also acting irregularly. If ' such clubs were not pulled up the Union might just as well go out of existence.
Rouml-the-Dlountain. The Taranaki centre of the Ath- ( letic and Cycling Union decided yesterday, on the motion of Mr W. ! Roebuck (New Plymouth Cycle Club) to forward a remit to the head body, asking that it annually allot the New Zealand road championship and provide the medal and ribbon. . Mr T. Kirkwood said the round-the-mountain race was one of the best in the world. There could hardly be a better track. Mr Roebuck said that for the next contest it was proposed to extend the course, so as to include Manaia, aqd to make the distance 112—the same as that of the Timaru-Christchurch race.
