SWIMMING CLUB HAS SUCCESSFUL YEAR

FBNANCBAL POSSTSON SATISFACTORY TWO CAKNIVALS DURING SEASON. The following will be the presented to members of the Stratford Old Pupils' Amateur Swimming Club, at the annual meeting to be held in the primary school to-mor-row evening:— Your committee is very pleased to i state that from both the swimming | and financial points of view, the Club has had a most successful season. The balance sheet discloses that the receipts amounted to £BO o,s Id and the disbursements amounted to £72 4s 2d, leaving a balance jn hand of £l3 15s lid. I'D, view! • of the fact that the Club, after in-, flailing at its own expense, electric light in all the sheds, and erecting two permanent flood lights for night swimming, then paid £l2 3s lOd to i the school committee for the use | of the baths, the above balance must I be considered most satisfactory Tor the firs', stuv's "operations. The sucorsM ceru.'3'y ox< e.-ded the most hopeful expectations of your Committee. Two carnival J were held during the season, both being exceedingly •well patroni ; '!d by the local public and by contingents of swimmers from all part, of Taranaki. The seating accnimnoc* tion at the Baths on each occasion wa° overtaxed, so much so, that i- is apparent that b fore long, snts tarsal alteration:v ill be necessary if it is intended! to cope with tht att'-rdance at carnivals. Th? Clu > must acknowledge that ( J 3 p-rifps was due cHefly to the n'aur.f*. :'n which competitors from ii.c H;wera, New Plymouth, Fitzroy and Inglewood Ciubs re'led up and comrrtr 1 at its carnivals. The thinks or the Club are due particularly »o the Inglewood Ciub, which vWted u r on our open.-

j'ng night, and gave ov.v swimmers a demonstration of wtter polo. Th;s spirit of friendship shown by oufsuTe clubg has ben v;ry helpful to our club, and it is to U: hoped that during the coming season more local swimmers enter for and compete in the carnivals of outside clubs. A dance was held im, the Medina Tea Rooms at the conclusion of the second carnival, and was much appreciated' by the visiting swimmers. WATER POLC CUP.

During the year the Club entered a team in the competition for the Dalgleish Water Polo Cup, and although it was not successful in carrying off the trophy, it acquitted itself well, considering that it did f.ot get going until well after Christmas. it was disappointing that the club could not furnish an entry for the Garth cup—the junior polo competition, and it is to be hoped that this season, sufficient young swimmers (under IS) are available, to support a team. it wa s unfortunate that during the year the Club lost the services of Mr A. Carter who was transferred to Wanganui. He was a member of the Committee and a Yavry proficient swimmer

Your committee also desire tp thank those persons who donated trophies during the year, and also 1 those people who assisted as officials at the two carnivals. Thanks are also due to Mr C. Rowson, the Baths custodian, for his willing ' services in preparing the Baths for the two carnivals.
