A NARROW ESCAPE

PIKE AT TE AWAMUTtJ SMALL CHILD RESCUED TE AWAMUTTJ, Oct. 4. Fire destroyed a six-roomed dwelling at Kihikihi, last night, occupied by a farm worker, Air Charles Dyer and owned by the estate of a relative. The building was insured but the amount is unavailable. The furniture and effects were not insured. Mr Dyer’s loss is estimated at £3OO. He had brought his wife to the train at To Awamutu earlier in the evening, and returning about 10.30 p.m. found the walls and ceiling ablaze. The inmates were seven children and Mr Dyer’s aged father. One little child was wandering about the dining room dazed, but Dyer rescued her and aroused the others, who made a hurried exit in night attire. The cause of the fire is unknown.
