Trout Fishing. No big hags or big fish are reported, but local fishermen are all getting fish, and appear quite satisfied with their catches.

Crichet Practice. The Stratford Cricket Club had intended to play a practice match to-day against an Eltham club, but as the latter could not field a team, members of the local club had a practice among themselves.

Speeding. The figures showing the speed on a sign on a Stratford district road have been altered by a wag to read 120, “and,” said a member of the Automobile Association last night, “by the speed the motorists go at, you Avould think they were trying to get up to that.

Boys’ and Girls’ Calf competition. At the meeting of the Taranaki ■'Branch of the New Zealand Friesian Association, it was stated that there had been cups donated for the calfrearing competition iu the Boys’ and Girls’ Calf Clubs. A cup will be presented to each of the Stratford, Hawera and New Plymouth Shows. Besides these there is a special v cup for competition throughout the whole of Taranaki, for the best Friesian calf. Tins cup 'will/ be judged at the New Plymouth Show and will be won outright.

A Dangerous Practice, At last night’s meeting of the Automobile Association attention was drawn to the prevalence of the practice by motorists in cutting in and stopping without warning. Aa instance was given where a service car had cut in before another cap and stopped without warning to unload a passenger, within twenty yards. The meeting decided that prosecutions should be laid to draw attention to the danger of the practice.

Miingaeliu Riding. A meeting of County ratepayers was held at Tututawa last night to consider the proposal to merge part of the Mangaehu Riding in the East Riding. After full discussion, it was decided not to go on with the proposal, as it would leave the rest of the Riding in a hopeles s position. The portion proposed to be merged is small in area, hut represents two-thirds of the valuation of the Riding. a scheme was afterwards discussed for raising a loan to renew the main roads, which the merger was designed to henelit. Classification Upheld.. Mr. 0. A. Marchanfc, speaking at the meeting of the Taranaki Brandi of the N.Z. Friesian Association, said he thought the Jersey Club’s ‘classification for type’ scheme was an excellent one if properly carried out.
