MONTHLY MEETING OF GOARD.

The Stratford Hospital Board met this morning, Mr. W. L. Kennedy presiding over the following mem- ■ bers: Messrs. C. s P. Harkness,• ipJ. Mar fell, J. T. Belcher, M. Gernboefer, J. O'Neill and T. H. Penn (isecretary). MATRON'S REPORT. Mrs. Hunt, Matron of the Hospital, reported as follows for the preceding! month: Sister Smith, had transferred to the midwifery ward as Sister in charge on August Ist.. Sister Potter had returned to duty on July 19th and had commenced duties ajs 'Ward Sister' on August Ist. Miss Meredith, staff nurse, commenced duties on August 4th. Nurse Black completed the Midwifery training on. June 30th and had left the hospital. H«r 'vacancy was beii/ng ,fi]l§d by Nurse Rundhart. Nurse Robinson commenced annual leave on July 19th. The Matron wished attention to be drawn to the condition of the sanitary arrangements in the Nurses* Home. She considered that one bath-room was inadequate for the number of. rooms in the home. She also thought it would be advantageous if hotpoints could te installed in the bedrooms. In the meamtime one could be used in the nurses study. The erection of another 'hod similar to the one already erected, would bo appreciated. The matter of arranging for another bathroom upstairs in the nurses' home was left in the haands of the chairman and secretary with power to act. MEDICAL SUPERINTENDENT'S HE PORT. The Medical Superintendent, Dr. D. Steven, reported that for July the number of patients admitted was 46; patients discharged 58, died 3; remaining in hospital 33 1 outpat ients attended to 16'; admissions to maternity ward 12, births in maternity ward 13y Visits to ante-natal 36, patients admitted to isolation 8, patients remaining i n isolaton ward j 9. Number of operatons, 10. Mrs. ]>. 'Shannon informed the Board that one of her children, who ' had been admitted to the hospital ; with a broken arm, had been sent ; home after two clays'' confinement. , | Because she required further treat- ! incut Mrs. Shannon had, with difficulty, obtained an outpatient's ticket. She understood the rule governing the issue of the tickets stipulated, "they are only to be issued to indigent and destitute persons." From a ratepayers point of view this rule was depriving /him of taking full advantage of the hospital, he alleged. The chairman said that the rule was formed so that everyone could not take advantage of the outpatients' tickets. To let them do so would mean the alteration of the regulations. The letter was received. The Director: General totf Health referred to the visit of Dr. Watt and •stated ho wa g in accord with the' Board's proposal t 0 enlarge the lios- • pital. Sketch plans, showing how ' the hospital could be altered to receive more patients, would be forwarded to the Board for consideration. The matter of the proposed purchasing of an ambulance was deferred till ai later meeting. It Avas decided to write to the Stratford Borough Council asking them to receive nominations for the seat on the Board which was left vacant by the resignation of Mr. R. V. Kay.
