FUMES OF TEAR GAS

WORKMEN AFFECTED.

BERLIN, July 30.

Workmen laying gas pipes in Barstrasse, West Berlin, burned up a number of tear gas containers and were affected by the fumes. Firemen wearing gas masks removed the unexploded containers, which formed part of the surplus of a chemical factory. It is estimated that 100,000 eightinch containers were buried in the vicinity. The authorities point out that the effects of the gas are not serious if inhaled in only small quantities.
