PLANE CRASHES ON ENDURANCE TEST

(Received 8.55 a.m.) ( NEW YORK, July 29. A Minneapolis message states that the plane Minnesota while trying for an endurance record , crashed to-day, killing Captain Christian and seriously injuring Owen Haughland the pilot. The p!ane had been in the air for 154 hours forty minutes. Australian Press Assn., United Service.

IMPROVEMENTS. Mr Rutherfurd complimented the general committee on the improvements to the course, stating that from a public standpoint the property is increasing in value as a public asset, e.g. park. Mr Rutherfurd suggested that the committee might consider top dressing the property other than the race track, and referred to the improvements which were being effected by the Stratford Golf Club. The chairman thanked Mr Rutherfurd for his remarks, and stated that matter would be referred to the in-coming general committee. GENERAL COMMITTEE. The meeting of the general committee was held at the termination of the guarantors' meeting, tlu-re being present: Messrs S. Pitt (chairman), D. .1. Malone, H. M. Good, A. Stewart, H. Cleland, A. Coleman. Apologies -were received from Messrs A W. Budge and H. E. Abraham, and Mr J. Predric was granted three months' leave of absence. AMENDMENTS TO THE GAMING BILL. The secretary reported that 112 signatures had been obtained to the petition which had been forwarded to Mr W. J. Prison, M.P. ["IMPROVEMENTS TO GRANDSTAND. The chairman reported that the Club's architect, Mr J. D. Healy, would have plans and specifications completel early in August. The architect stated that the work would be finished at the end of November. It was resolved that on receipt of the plan and specifications that the same be duly submitted to a special meeting of the general committee and the matter of convening same be left in the hands of the chairman and secretary. PAINTING STARTING POSTS. This matter has been deferred until October. The chairman submitted a draft of the annual report on behalf of the committee which was duly approved. The annual general meet-

ing of members will be held in the secretary's office, Broadway. Wednesday, 14th August, at 8 p.m. The chairman reported the sum of, £lO 10s has been donated to the earthquake fund, the action to be approved at the annual meeting. It was suggested that the Course Committee consider the desirability of closing track (for a short period) after the Hunt Club meeting. Mr Malone stated that committee would give' this matter due consideration. The caretaker's report n n training operations for til;; inontu ending July was tabled. The treasurer's report indicates" that the Bank overdraft was reduced by £703 17s 7d, compared wjith July, 1928. Account s amounting to £l9 0s 6d were passed for payment. With reference to the exclusion of the Club's property from Borough rating as town „ property, the matter is in tlie hands of the Club's solicitor*, who have not yet reported. Mr Coleman reported in connection with recent visit to Wellington and representations on behalf of the Stratford Racing Club. The chairman expressed the Club's thanks to Mr Coleman for the representation s made. Before concluding the meeting the chairman thanked members of the general committee for their cooperation and loyal support in conducting the affairs of the Club during the past year; the collective work of the committee has assured success.' » Mr Malone, in thanking tjhe chairman for his expressions of appreciation complimented the chairmen on his leadership, and expressed the opinion that the results achieved were due to team work and continuity of policy. He was pleased to know that Mr Pitt had consented to re-nomination to the position of president. Mr Coleman conveyed thanks for expressions of appreciation, and endorsed the remarks of the previous speaker.
