WILL MATCHES BE PLAYED ON SHOWGROUNDS.

At last night’s nesting of the , Rugby uwon, notification was re= ceived from the Stratford Domain Board that the Board had decided that it should take the whole of the proceeds from the propos= ed grandstand in Victoria Park. After discussion it was decided that the letter be “received”, and that the Board be informed that the Urvon could not agree to the terms. On the letter hein K read Mr J. Goodwin remarked: Don’t they want as to play matches hero? , The chairman (Mr R. Masters): They are going the right way about it to create that impression. M r 'TV. A. Guy: I» the Showground available? ’Die chairman; Yes. Mr J. Garcia: Wo have a Hallway Department which is keen for business and will not hesitate to stop trains at the Showgrounds. The chairman: Has anybody a resolution ?

Mr Garcia: 1 dlon’t think it in necessary. We can only move t O , another ground if it is available.

Mr. E. H. Young: We could notify the Boil'd that wo sincerely regret to learn their decision. Mr. Goodwin: Evidently this thing is pretty hot. I move that the letter be received.

Mr. W. A. Guy; I think it is getover the odds’. Wo have no ground in Stratford, and I think wo should do something.

The chairman: I am oppcs the Board’s proposal!. X would bo very sorry, to sc© matches transferred from Victoria Park. It is a good ground, handy for Stratford people, and the Board’s proposal is an imposition which tliq Union cannot stand. Mr G. H. Percy: Is it a case ol Stratford suffering because the opinion of qiiq man, or does the decision represent tlio opinion of a number of people. , The chairman: I believe that the majority of the. Domain Board favour it. Mr Goodwin accepted the chairman’s suggestion to add) to his motion “and that the Board bo informed that the Union cannot agree to the proposed terms.” Mr Goodwin; The position which has arisen over the ground is evidently very hard as regards senior matches. You are only allowed to charge for a certain number of days. , The chairman; That provision has already been in force, hut the Union has always charged 2s for rep matches. Mr Goodwin : The Board’s attitucb seems peculiar. The chairman: We must ho fair to the Domain Board. All except, two* members of the Board voted for a\ strong resolution against the Mayor’s action, which must have been very humiliating: to him. The motion was carried.
