TARANAKI STOCK MARKET* I

The stock market report of, Messrs ’Newton King, Ltd., for this week, ended June 29 is as under;— ! Beef. —No alteration in the prices ruling under this heading has taken place during the week and supplies for local consumption are still being largely filled through the medium of private treaty, by reason of the fact that only small numbers, of mostly second quality beef, are being yarded at our various centres» Quotations are as follows: .Heavy prime fat bullocks £l4 to £ls, lighter sorts £l2 10s to £l3, heavy prime fat cows £ll to £l2, heavy cows £9 10s to £lO 10s, light and unfinished £7 to £B.

Sheep.—As stated in our last

week’s report, supplies under this | heading are perhaps a little mor£ j plentiful than they were some few weeks ago; however, no ease in the prices ruling has been effected, and owing to the fact that our open markets are practically devoid of ally of this class, supplies for local consumption are being fulfilled in (the paddock, prices ruling being as follows: —Heavy prime fat wethers £2, fat wethers 37s to 38s, lighter sorts 35s 6d to 365, heavy prime fat ewes 30s to 31s 6d, lighter, 26s 6d to 28s, fat lambs -27 s t 0 28s. -The demand all round for all classes in this section is g'ood, especially for hoggets, and in view of the limited numbers of this class that are being quoted, ready sales are being effected at prices if anything a little in advance to late quotations. Pair numbers of breeding ewes are als 0 changing: hands, as are the limited numbers of store and forward wethers. Practically none of the classes offering in this section are coming forward to our open markets with the result that the sales that are being ; effected are made in the paddocks, j Quotations rule as follows^ —2-tooth ! ewes, in lamb to Romney rams 38s to 40s, 4. and 6 tooth ewes in lamb i to Romney rams 35s 6d to 37s> good framed 4 and 5 year old ewes, in | lamb to either black face or Rom- * ney rams 35s t 0 36s 6d, good framed i 5-year-old ewes, in lamb to either 1 black face or Romney rams 33s to ■ 345, full and failing mouthed ewes (25s t 0 275, culls 20s to 225, good | forward conditioned 2 and 4-tooth i wether hoggets 24s to 255, others 120 st 0 22s 6d, a few lines of full I woolled mixed sex hoggets Jhave [changed hands at from 28s to 30s, ! while the majority of the lines are | being quoted at from 26s to 275, | while few, if any, straight lines of ! ewe hoggets are being quoted, j store Cattle—The offerings of ! this class at our various centres

are more or less reduced as compared with the numbers that were [coming forward some few weeks , ago, the yardiugs at present coni sisting of store and forward cows, while male cattle are conspicuous by their absence Works buyers are operating freelv on the cows that (clearances are being effected satisfactory prices. Weaner heifers are coming forward in small numbers, and in view of the difficulty that is being experienced: in fulfilling reciuirements, this class is subject to keen competition when put

under the hammer, with the result ■that the prices obtained are of a pleasing nature to vendors. Prices ruling at our various centres are as follows; —Good framed foiwaid conditioned cows £5 15s to £6 10s, good framed and good coloured store cows £4 5s to £5 ss, others £2 10s to £3, good quality weaner Jersey heifers £6 10s to £7, medium sorts £5 to £5 10s, small and 1 mixed .coloured sorts £3 to £4. In view of the limited number of male cattle that are offering very few sales are being effected. Dairy Cattle.—The demand is still good for all classes under this heading, and good prices are the order of the day at our various clearing sales that have been held dhring the week. Good benches of buyers are in ! attendance at practically every sale and any beast of any quality ; is subject to spirited competition. Good numbers of bofh cows and heifers are now coming forward to our open markets and in most cases full clearances are being effected at satisfactory prices to vendors. 'The enquiry ifor hn-calf heifeis

from outside districts is good; and requirements in this direction are being fulfilled largely through the, medium of private treaty* Prices ruling under this hearing are as foilows: —Choice young dairy cows £lB to £22, good sorts £l4 to £l6, medium sorts £lO 10s to £l2 10s, old and backward sorts £8 t 0 £9, choice fawn Jersey heifers, by, and in calf, to pedigree, Jersey bulls, are changing hands at from £l3 to £l4 while good sorts aer being purchased at from £ll to £l2, and the smaller and mixed coloured sorts are being sold at from ££B 10s to £9 10s.
