Concluding events at the H.B. races first day yesterday resulted as under: — Hawke's Bay Steeplechase, about 21 miles.—7 Royal Elm 1, 4 Young Thurnham 2,2 Matu 3. Won hy a head with seven lengths between second and third. Time, smin 31 1-5 sec. Nukumai fell. Winter Handicap, one mile and a furlong.—3 Courageous 1, 1 King's Jest 2,2 Ironic 3. Won by two lengths, with two lengths between second and third. Tim<», 2.urn 3 4-ssec, Wilmoreana fell. Hastings Handicap, six furlongs. —1 Zippor 1, 7 Sylvan Dell 2, 11 King Manu 3. Won by a head, with a head between second and third. Time, lmin 19 4-ssec. Heretaunga Handicap, six furlongs and a half.—l Molitoa Treasury 1, 4 Queen's Choice 2, 3 Royal Damon 3. Won by three-quarters of a length, with two lengths between second and third. Time, lmin 25 2-ssec.

Local ijrainers will be represented at the Waverley Racing Club's meeting next Saturday with Paul Lucerne, Toapaiti, Onward, Potoleer, and Potency. ■ —x — At last year's winter meeting at Hastings Atareria won the Whakatau Hurdles carrying 10.5. Yesterday Atareria. won the same race with 11.8 in the saddle. The rising two-yeair-old colt by Hunting Song-Civilisation, has had jthe najme of Civril /Song /bestowed upon him. The youngster is a halfbrother of Civility, Civilform, Wilderness, Siaosi, Calculation, and Pipulace. x F. J. McKay lias rccommissioned the good two-year-old Speed Light. —x — Just So is in work on the Hawera track, after a long absence. Partaga is back on the tracks at i Hanvera. ,
—x— Sir George Clifford has sold Prickles (Panmure-Brambletye) to Mr. "W. J. Slake, and she will go into"lT. W. King's stable at (Biccartoni. It is understood that 400 guineas was the prico paid for her. Bisox, Valkon, Kawhakino, and Anolo are the Taranaki horses nominated for the Parliamentary Handicap, l-J miles, which takes place at IVentham, next month. Bisox won it j last year. —x— Mister Gamp is back on the tracks at Awapuni and loiks in good order for future racing over the battens.
• —x — A Dunedin auctioneer priced Uralla recently on behalf of an. Otago man who likes to race ai juniper or two. The horse was placed under offer at 300gns., but this figure was considered excessive, and no business resulted. Since then Uralla has won the Great Northern Steeplechase, worth £1401) to the winner. —x — Sir George Clifford has sold tbo three-year-old filly Impertinence) to tho Central Otago owner, Mr R. Tohill. Impertinence, by The Ace from Miss Mimic, has hot won a race yet, but she bag been second several times this season, showing useful form, riepetijtion of which should enable her ta win races for her new own-
