CHURCH MATTERS

MEETING OF PRESBYTERY. The Taranaki Presbyterian Church held the bimonthly meeting of the Presbytery in St. Andrew’s Church, Stratford, yesterday. Those present were Revs. Stewart, Evans, Wheatley, Miller, Rycburn, MacGregor, Steel, Chartcris, Coombss, Wilson, Newton; Elders Pettigrew, Revins, Bridge, Richardson and Pitcaithley. Reports were received from the Mission Stations of Opunake, Inglewood and Whagamomona, and a commission of the Rev. Wilson and the Rev. Evans was appointed to visit Inglewood and report on matters there. Normanby forwarded a resolution that a permanent successor to Mr H. Fletcher, who was leaving the district, should not be appointed till the end of their financial year, and that till then their church should be run by local residents. After a lengthy discussion tw Q proposals were put forward and left over for further consideration. They were as follows; “That an assist-

ant be appointed to Hawera, and that he should work Normanby” and “that a new charge, consisting of Hawera’s outfields and Normanby, should be formed.” The Rev. Wilson gave a short report on ifche .made in New Plymouth during the last three years and stated that four new Sunday School halls had been built and that services were being conducted in six places at the present, and the outlook for the future was gjmry encouraging. Several remits from the Church Assembly were dealt with, and votes of appreciation were passed to the Rev. M.
